08/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Duke previously lived with adults and has been around children ages 1 to 7 years old. The owner stated when around strangers Duke will growl and plays somewhat rough, and with children Duke is relaxed and plays somewhat rough. The owner mentioned Duke will growl if someone touches his food or bowl while he is eating. The owner describes Duke as friendly, playful, confident, and mellow. It was reported by the owner Duke is house trained, has a low to medium activity level and when home alone he will get into the garbage. At intake it was reported Duke would growl when staff approach him, all handling was conducted by the owner. During SAFER Duke came into the assessment room tense and uncomfortable, he was not interested with the assessor and his body stiffened when the handler attempted to touch him. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Duke displayed stiff body language when attempting to pet him. He displayed no interest in the toy resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: 5. Dog growls and bites the assess-a-hand. Dog-dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Duke is nervous as he greets the other dog briefly before wandering in the pen. He checks in on the female dog, leaning his body against hers.
