08/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/04/16 15:02 Basic Information: Ducky is a 4 year old spayed Pit Bull Terrier Mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Ducky for a week and is giving her up because Ducky does not get along with other dogs. Also, Ducky can be fearful but also gets over-stimulated and gets overly energetic and mouthy. It was too much for owners to handle. Owner adopted Ducky from SIACC and liked how peacefully Ducky slept on the couch. Socialization: According to the owner, around adults, Ducky gets too excited and over stimulated and can become mouthy and jumpy. Around dogs, Ducky is hostile. If Ducky is in the vicinity of another dog, she would most likely attempt to attack. She will lunge, bark, growl, and snap. Around cats, Ducky would bark and lunge if she saw a cat on the street. According to owner, Ducky seems partially house-trained and had accidents daily. Ducky was kept mostly indoors and was described as excitable, fearful, and anxious with a very high activity level. Behavior: Previous owners stated that Ducky had several behavioral issues such as peeing indoors, can be fearful of people which results in barking and lunging, attempting to fight with other dogs and cats, being hard to control and barking too much. Ducky has had an incident where she accidentally bit a person and punctured the skin. Ducky was being overly playful and rowdy at the time of the bite. Ducky has not bitten any animals. Ducky isn’t bothered when her food or bowl is touched while eating or when given a bath. Owner did not attempt to take a bone, rawhide or treat away, trim her nails, or brush her coat, so behavior is unknown. When owner attempted to take toy or other object away Ducky would bark, growl, or snap. Ducky barks and growls when being held or restrained. Ducky isn’t bothered when someone unfamiliar approaches the home or yard. For a New Family to Know: Ducky knows the command: sit. For exercise, Ducky would go for brisk walks with the owner and play in the yard. Ducky’s favorite toys are squeaky toys. Ducky usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When in the home, Ducky is the type to follow you around seeking attention. Ducky was never left alone in the yard. When off the leash, Ducky would wander some but would come if called. She was fed both dry and wet dog food. Ducky would sleep on the couch.
05/23/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Ducky is the cutest little bat-eared lady! Her owner ended up in the hospital and now she finds herself between people. She makes adorable little moaning noises from her cage and is always very excited to go outside. She keeps her cage clean and is very quick to relieve herself outside, so may be housebroken. She pulls on the leash, but that’s because she’s got a lot of catching up to do after being cooped up all day! She’s very playful and likes to romp after squeaky toys (and easily lets me take them from her). She’s also an expert at cuddling! Ducky will make herself at home on my lap, occasionally perking up her ears if she hears a curious noise, but mostly seems like she could fall asleep as I pet her — she is so sweet! Ducky would love to be your very best friend, please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC! Another volunteer writes: Ducky is a beautiful, petite gal. Only 32 pounds soaking wet. She is four years old and has bunny ears. She lost her home through no fault of her own. She is just what your home needs. Imagine those cute bat ears greeting you every time you come through your front door. Come meet Ducky.
07/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ducky came into our center as an owner surrender citing being too overwhelming for the other resident dog. Behavior around children and cats is unknown. Ducky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable with a high activity level. She was kept indoors only & is very house trained. She has never had an accident in the owners home. Owner stated that she is crate trained and would understand to go in when owner would tell her to do so. Ducky knows the commands sit, down, in your crate and off. Ducky was relaxed during intake, jumping up affectionately and allowed all handling. She pulled hard on leash for her relief walk. Ducky mouthed assessor’s arm with moderate pressure upon entering SAFER assessment area and several times during the assessment. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, relaxed. Ducky leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth. She was distracted and unresponsive to touch during Tag game, jumping up and mouthing assessor’s arm. Ducky gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, jumping up on assessor in between items. She took Toy away with loose body. Ducky approached the helper dog with low body, then stood very still, head low, body crouched. The Behavior Team feels Ducky would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. She would benefit from obedience classes to learn not to mouth or jump up. Ducky would do best as the only resident dog. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 3. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, mouths assessor’s arm with moderate pressure Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog gently pulls back and jumps up Toy 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is between you and the toy, and she is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. Dog – dog 3. Dog approaches the helper dog quickly, head and body low, very still, crouched
05/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ducky was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ducky is a bit nervous when greeting and wanders in the pen with a soft body. Staten Island 7/26: Ducky was reactive through the gate to a social male so it was decided to muzzle her. When off leash while muzzled, Ducky was offensive right away by thrashing and forward lunging towards and on top of the dog while growling. Ducky was taken back inside and did not participate in playgroup.

05/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucky is here because his owner is currently in the hospital and unable to care for Lucky. Unfortunately, we only have behavior information that has been observed while in the shelter environment. Lucky was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He appeared to be very friendly and affectionate during this interaction. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. Lucky engaged in play with the assessor during the tag interaction calming quickly as the game ended. He only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We believe that Lucky can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. He indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. Ducky was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ducky is a bit nervous when greeting and wanders in the pen with a soft body.
