WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Duchess is so endearing my heart swells with joy just thinking about her! She has the most adorable habit of sitting like a little person in her cage and batting one of her paws for attention. She is super wiggly and affectionate and has quite the impressive resume for such a young lady! We’re told she might play rough with adults, but knows to be gentle with children, has lived harmoniously with other dogs (she’s been eager to play with others in our playgroups, too!), and even had a playful relationship with the resident cat!! She props her paws up to solicit attention, seems submissive, crawls into my lap any chance she gets, and could only be sweeter if she were dipped in frosting and rolled in sprinkles. She is PERFECT sidekick material…please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC!

According to her previous guardian, Duchess has lived with large male and female dogs and was relaxed and friendly with them. The Behavior Department recommends that Duchess be placed with dogs that enjoy and are tolerant of her play style. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 7/8/17 Duchess was extremely friendly and allowed all handling upon intake. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 7/9/17 Duchess was playful and friendly during her initial medical examination. ENERGY LEVEL: Duchess is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
Potential challenges: _X_ House soiling- Duchess is reported to have frequent accidents in the house, and appears to have been housetrained in the past. She will need guidance and consistency to learn to eliminate outside. We recommend crate training (the crate must be made positive and never used as a punishment), frequent walks, rewards for eliminating outside (treats, toys, games), consistent feeding schedule, and careful monitoring when inside. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse.
