09/10/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hellllllllloooooooooo handsome! Lanky and slender in his gleaming black coat, Dre is stunning. He has a very slight mustache of white along with a tiny little goatee also in white giving his face a distinguished and whimsical look. Not one to trade solely on his good looks, he showed me that he’s likely housetrained, walks nicely on leash, sits when asked and takes treats super sweetly. When we first got to the park Dre got a case of the zoomies and I so wished I could have let him off leash to burn off that fun energy. Perhaps the zoomies were to honor the rapper after whom he may be named? Who knows! After a break for both of us to drink some water, Dre poses for photos like a pro, looking like he could grace the cover of Doggie GQ! He’s so gorgeous. His tail wags as I talk to him, he gives soft kisses and get a little jumpy in his playfulness. Alert, attentive and in tune with his person, he’s such a pleasure to spend time with. When I sat down on the curb to make some notes, Dre lay down at my feet to wait patiently. In my opinion he could stand to gain a little weight, not much as he’s meant to be elegantly slender. Gorgeous inside and out, Mr. Dre is ready to make your acquaintance today.
09/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dre pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Dre was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Dre did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Or, dog licks hands while lips are long. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy: 1. No interest.
09/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Dre is initially intent on mounting persistantly, and only ceases when the handler steps on his leash, ignores correction from the helper dog. When solicited with exuberant play by the female greeter, he no longer attempts to mount and continues to engage in play for the remainder of the session. The behavior team feels that Dre could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction and slow introductions. Dre arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs, and it is unknown how his behavior around dogs will translate into a home setting.
