08/09/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 8/7/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 8/9/17 Look:1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag:1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Summary: Drax was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Drax displays a soft wiggly posture when greeting a novel female dog. He is slightly sexually motivated, engaging cooperative play with the goal to mount, but listens to her correction. He briefly interacts with a novel neuter male, but mostly ignores him. He becomes reactive with an intact male and offers him a series of hard correction, before being separated. Drax was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department recommends that Drax be placed in a home with only tolerant females and neuter males that match his calm sociability. All introductions should be done slowly and under supervision. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/7/17: Upon intake Drax was calm with loose body posture, he allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/7/17: During his medical examination, Drax was nervous but allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Drax so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)
