08/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/12/16 15:29 Basic Information: Dragon is a 12 year old unneutered male Pit Bull that had medical problems with her ear, and paw. She currently has skin problems causing redness and irritation on her body. Socialization: According to the owner, Dragon is not socialized and has not been around too many people. When owner would have people over, she would put Dragon in the bathroom until she stopped barking and then owner would let Dragon out into her own spot in the apartment. Dragon has been around children ages 2 & 11 and was relaxed and respectful around them. Owner would not allow the children to play with Dragon though and they were always supervised with Dragon. She has not been around any other dogs or cats therefore behavior is unknown. Dragon has never bit any animals but did try to bite admissions counselor during intake (not breaking skin). Behavior: When there are fireworks or thunderstorms outside, Dragon would get nervous and try to hide in the house. She is friendly when being given a bath or being disturbed while sleeping. When owner would brush her coat, she was not bothered by having it done. If someone would touch Dragons food, treats or toys, she would bark and growl. Owner has never tried to trim her nails therefore behavior is unknown. Owner stated that when unfamiliar people would approach the home or yard, she would bark. For a New Family to Know: Dragon is described as affectionate, playful, shy, confident, excitable, and anxious (around new people) with a medium activity level. In the home she would either follow the owner around or be in her favorite spot. She likes to play with balls, bones or tire toys. Dragon was kept indoors only and is mostly house trained. Over the last few months, she has had accidents in the home about 3x a month. When Dragon was left alone in the home, she was well behaved. Owner did not have a yard so she is not sure how Dragon would be left alone in the yard. Dragon knows the commands sit, down, go eat, go shower, pound it, and right/left paw. For exercise, she would go on quick walks on the leash. When on the leash, Dragon pulls in between hard and light. Owner’s husband used to take Dragon for a walk off leash and she would stay by his side. Behavior during intake: When I put my hand out for Dragon to smell, she started licking my hand, soft body language. When I went to touch her collar, she did try to bite me. I was not able to collar her due to this behavior.

08/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dragon came into our center as an owner surrender on 8/12/2016. According to the owner, Dragon is not socialized and has not been around too many people. Dragon has been around children ages 2 & 11 and was relaxed and respectful around them, but Owner would not allow the children to play with Dragon alone, always supervised. Behavior around dogs and cats is unknown. Dragon has reportedly never bit any animals but did try to bite admissions counselor during intake when counselor approached her collar (not breaking skin). When there are fireworks or thunderstorms outside, it is reported Dragon may hide. If someone would touch Dragons food, treats or toys, she would reportedly bark and growl. When Dragon was left alone in the home, she was well behaved. Dragon knows the cues sit, down, go eat, go shower, pound it, and right/left paw. Dragon is described as affectionate, playful, shy, confident, excitable, and anxious (around new people). Dragon walked well on leash for her relief walk. She was calm upon entering SAFER assessment area, walked up slowly and approached assessor, softly laying head on assessor’s lap and allowed petting. SAFER was performed moving slowly with gentle voice, Dragon allowed the handling. She allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed. Dragon was a bit cautious during Sensitivity item, lip lick. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game. Dragon licked her lips, a bit stiff during paw Squeeze, so remaining item was conducted using Flank, no response to both Flank Squeezes. Dragon showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she likes to play with balls, bones or tire toys. She did not approach the helper dog. Dragon would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. She will benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction as well as initially going home to a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and know what to expect. Look: 1. Eyes averted, neutral Sensitivity: 2. Stands still, a bit cautious, slight lip lick Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, soft Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes a bit stiff. Flank squeeze 1 / 2. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog – dog: 2. Dog does not approach
