A Little Bit About Me…
A volunteer writes: Dots is an unassuming dream girl! On my most recent trip to the shelter a newer volunteer confessed that he had to walk her twice and there was no explanation needed…I get it! She is SO sweet and has a knack for leaving an impression on anyone that crosses her path (and taking a piece of their heart with her!). She is very calm on leash, seems housebroken, and loves treats (she knows how to appreciate the good stuff, but none of that refined palate nonsense for this gal!). She has moments of being bashful, but is mostly very waggy and quietly affectionate. She’ll lean her head on my lap, briefly get the zoomies, and gives kisses. On our last walk she found something especially stinky to roll in and was such a trooper when I insisted on giving her a bath…she is really a doll in every way! I don’t think it will take much to keep Dots happy, but come meet her and I doubt it will take you long to agree that she deserves the world!
My medical notes are…

Summary: Dots came into the room loose and wiggly, she was very friendly and affectionate towards the handlers.
Summary (1): Dots was surrendered by her owner following an altercation she had with the other resident dog. He provided no further information. Dots was at the Care Center once before. While here in February 2017, Dots was utilized as a greeter dog and displayed soft and social body language when greeting male and female dogs. She was bouncy when soliciting play and ran away from inappropriate behaviors.
11/7: On her second stay, Dots is on a bite quarantine therefore we are required to place a muzzle on her before she interacts with other dogs. She greets the novel male helper dog with a soft, wiggly body and tolerates his genital sniffs. Unfortunately she was occupied with the muzzle on her face to interact any further.
11/10-13: Dots is now allowed to interact with another dog off-leash without a muzzle. She engages in and reciprocated gentle play and was tolerant of brief body contact. When the novel male dog attempts to sniff her genitals, Dots quickly spins around and offers an appropriate correction when he becomes persistent.
Date of intake: 30-Oct-2017
Date of initial: 30-Oct-2017
Summary: Friendly and allows all handling.
ENERGY LEVEL: Dots displays a medium activity level in the care center.

Enrichment:
11/2: Upon approaching her kennel, Dots was lying down sleeping. When she saw me in front of her kennel, her tail began to wag and she came to the front. She was easy to rope and bring outside to the pens. I was able to attach a drag leash without issue. Once in the pens, Dots followed beside me as we walked around in the pens. She took treats gently and allowed me to pet/rub her head and along her back. I touched her chest midway, but did not touch any further due to her injuries. But she would solicit attention by nudging her head under my hand, when I would stop petting her. When our session was over, I was able to rope her and bring her back to her kennel without any issues.

A volunteer writes:
In a day where we walk and care for dozens of dogs, there are always a few that stand out. Melanie is one of them. Whether it was her dirty coat that so needs a bath, or her quiet and sweet demeanor, or her friendly smile, something about her touched me deeply. I opened her kennel door, she wagged her tail shyly and out we went. She’s likely housetrained leaving a clean kennel behind her and ‘going’ as soon as we were out the door. Her leash manners are perfect, her amber eyes make soft, shy contact with mine, she posed for her photos like a pro, and was so happy to sit by me with her head in my lap. As I caressed her, her eyes closed and she began to purr. It was just the two of us, in a special place. Later in the day each time I walked by her kennel she saw me, stood up and wagged her tail. We don’t know what her past was, but we can only hope for her future. She is a sweetheart of a little girl looking for her place in some one’s heart. Ask to meet her today
NOVEMER 2015 – A volunteer writes: I wish it was enough for me to tell you how sweet Jennifer is and you should go meet and adopt her, and end right there. But I know you want to know more. I was told by staff how much they loved this sweet girl and it’s certainly with good reason. She’s so low key, calm, gentle and easy that you just want to hold her close and tell her that her new family will happen soon. She’s housetrained, comes when called, lays her head in my lap for petting, sweetly closing her eyes as I stroke her. She’s good on leash although we only went for a short walk as she favors a back leg and I didn’t want to hurt it. Whatever is going on with it has apparently been going on for some time, as Jennifer was a guest in our Brooklyn shelter at one time and volunteers there state she had the same issue. Jen was returned to her owner back then, and just came back as a
‘stray’ with her housemate Almond A1058050. Jen sits at my feet as I take notes, quiet, undemanding and easy. I left our pen for a couple of minutes and when I returned she was sitting quietly waiting for me. It’s said that the eyes are a window into the soul, and looking into Jennifer’s eyes all I can see is kindness, sweetness and a desire to love and be loved. When I returned Jennifer to her kennel, she stopped in front of Almond’s kennel and they exchanged a kiss through the gate. I know when you meet her you’ll be quietly swept off your feet….because that’s what Jennifer does….
