08/06/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/06/16 16:49 Basic Information Donna is a 16 year old female Chow Chow who is being surrendered due to her health. Owners had her for 14 years. Owner stated she may have a brain tumor or vertigo. Owners stated they took Donna to a vet about three months ago for a severe head tilt. She was given medication that made the tilt less visible. More exams were required to identify exactly what is going on with Donna but owners could not afford the continuing health care cost. Socialization Donna is described as friendly around strangers. She has lived and been around kids ages 5, 6, and 13 and was relaxed and tolerant of them. She will pay in a gentle manner with adults as well as kids. She has never lived with dogs but when she sees dogs outside she would ignore them. Donna has never lived or been around any other kind of animal. She has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated Donna has no behavior issues. Donna will become nervous and hides during storms. Donna will growl if her food is touched while she is eating or if a bone style treat is touched. She is not bothered if a treat, toy, if disturbed while sleeping, if brushed, or if someone unfamiliar approaches the yard/family member. Donna is afraid of baths and owner has never trimmed her nails. For a New Family to Know Donna is described as friendly, shy, and mellow with a medium activity level. Owner stated he likes that she is very obedient. At home Donna likes to stay in the same room. She likes to play with chew/bone toys. Donna does not play any games. She is kept mostly outdoors and sleeps in the balcony. She eats 2 cans per day of Alpo Wet dog food and home food here and there. She is house-trained and will go potty on grass. Owner states she is well behaved when left alone in the yard and indoors. She has never been crated and knows commands like sit, stay, go and no. For exercise she plays in the yard. She pulls slightly and never been walked off the leash. Behavior during Intake Donna tolerated touch when I was collaring her. When I needed her to move to one side of the room, she would growl and bare teeth when I gently pulled on the leash. This was the only sign of aggression during intake.

08/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Due to Donna’s medical condition she is a poor candidate for a SAFER aggression assessment at this time. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can address her medical condition and then evaluate behavior in a stable home environment. Please refer to the owner surrender profile for information on Donna’s behavior in her previous home.
