06/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beauty in motion…Doc Marten is really Mr. Good Looks with his nicely built body dressed in a superb Catahoula coat, and his gentle baby blue eyes. And if it was not enough, Doc Marten (who is very composed in his kennel) is a dream to walk and spend time with. He strolls at my pace, does his business without marking and approaches his peers with a softly wagging tail. He does not chase pigeons. He has a very good nose and spots very quickly my stash of treats, kicks the bag and spills on the ground a few dry cutlets of beef. He does not mind me pulling some away from him as I have to treat other dogs too. Doc Marten can sit on command after a few prompts and will also run, catch and play a little with a tennis ball. He is an absolutely magnificent and healthy looking dog. It is a real pleasure for the eyes to see him moving and playing in the yard. Most people who have walked him are amazed at how well behaved and collected he is while being lively and super sociable and friendly. Ten thumbs up for Doc Marten!! he is waiting at the Manhattan Care Center to start his new life with you
6/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE

Doc Marten walks calmly on leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Doc Marten was easy to handle when chewing on toys Doc Marten did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Playgroup Notes: Doc Marten bounces to solicit play from human handlers. When solicited by a dog, he stiffens, growls, and charges after them.
06/14/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Doc Marten has shown conflicting behaviors when off leash with other dogs. Even with the same dog he may play one day then another he offers a strong correction, tenses and follows when that dog solicits play from him. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on observations made during his stay, the behavior department recommends Doc Marten does not go to a home with other dogs until his behaviors can be followed up on. 6/14: When off leash with other dogs Doc Marten initially solicits play by offering play bows and paw slaps. He soon solely becomes sexually motivated and persistently attempts to mount. 6/15: Doc Marten greets male dogs politely. He keeps to himself. He tenses up when solicited with barks and bows from a playful dog. 6/16: Doc Marten bounces to solicit play from human handlers. When solicited by a dog, he stiffens, growls, and charges after them. 6/17 update: Doc Marten is tense when approached and greeted. 6/21: Doc Marten briefly engages in play when solicited.
