A volunteer writes: The only time Diva earns her name is when she ignores my treats. (Maybe she was used to much better.) Otherwise, she seems absolutely low-maintenance. She is quiet in her kennel, easily leashed, walks gently and does her business straight away. In no time Diva is flopping down on the sidewalk for belly rubs, turning this way and that to make sure I don’t miss any of her favorite spots. It’s not exactly Park Avenue so we both get a bit sooty, but Diva doesn’t care. If it takes this little to make her happy, imagine how ecstatic she could be in a home of her own again. Diva is waiting for you at Brooklyn ACC.

OWNER PROFILE:

Basic Info

Diva is a 5 year old German Shepherd Mix whose owners were moving and could not bring her. She has been with her owners for a majority of her life and has last seen a vet in 2013.

Socialization

Around strangers Diva is enigmatic and solicits attention. She will jump and give hugs. She has lived with children ages 2 and 6 and elderly and she is playful and exuberant but sometimes does not know her size and knocks the children over. She has lived with a large dog before and they got along fine, she enjoys interactions with other dogs and solicitis play when she sees them. She also lives with a cat that she sleeps and cuddles with. She has never bitten a person or animal before.

Behavior

Diva does not use the bathroom indoors, destroy household items or bark too much. She is not bothered by loud noises and enjoys car rides. She will wait for permission to eat and does not have a problem with her food or toys being touched or taken. When it is bath time she may run away to her bed and try to fake sleep but once she is in the tub she allows herself to be bathed. She is fine with being brushed and does not really bark when strangers approach the home.

New Family

Diva has a medium level of activity at home. She likes to follow her owners around the house and sleeps with a pillow and blanket. She is fed blue buffalo dry food once a day in a large portion. She never has accidents inside the house and is well behaved in the house and in the yard when left alone. She knows the command sit, come, stay, go to bed and lay down. She pulls lightly on the leash but responds to gentle correction and can be walked off leash, she may stay by your side or wander but returns if called.

Intake Behavior

Diva jumped onto counselor and allowed all handling with a wagging tail. She allowed counselor to scan, collar and photograph.
