WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Little Dino was found as a stray and we can imagine why… Indeed , this plump little guy has a purulent growth under his right eye that could be anything and needs veterinary care. Beside the above, Dino, who is 9 year old is rather perky. he is not too happy in his kennel and will take any opportunity to be out and fly without wings out of his den..Not so fast, Mister. tightly snuggled against my chest, Dino and I go to the yard. A great little walker he is and doing his full business(without marking) as soon as we are out. He can climb stairs pretty nicely and hops on the bench upon request. He likes to be caressed , talked to and fed soft treats. Little Dino needs care, no doubt about that but a nice sweet friend he will be if given a chance. Come and meet him ASAP at the Manhattan Care Center. Dino is waiting…
06/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dino came to us as a stray so we don’t have any behavior information other than what has been observed in shelter environment. Dino walked well on the leash and was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining very soft body language. During the tag interaction Dino engaged in play with the assessor and calmed quickly at the end of the item. He only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We believe that Dino can go to an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. He indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. 6/9: When off leash with other dogs, Dino avoids and seeks handler attention.
