01/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Upfront in his kennel, tail wagging and looking forward to making new friends, Dino is excited to be heading outside. He’s a tiny little guy, his tail wags and he pulls towards the door outside and then stops. Is this what I want? Should we go outside? What’s out there? I can hear his thoughts loud and clear! He needs a bit of coaxing and a slack leash so that he can make up his own mind and decides that going out is a good thing to do! First stop – going potty and then it’s all about tail wags and greeting other dogs as they pass our pen. His tail wags helicopter style as he excitedly greets dogs passing our pen. When I sit to take some notes he sits by my side briefly but…. wait – there’s another dog I need to greet – and off he goes. Dino is a happy, friendly little guy who’s looking for an active, fun and loving family with whom to start his happily ever after.
01/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dino pulls a bit on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Dino was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys Dino did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
