07/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dimon came into the shelter on 7/26/16, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during Intake: Dimon was relaxed and allowed all handling. During SAFER Dimon came into the assessment room she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor; she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Dimon was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Dimon was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Dimon appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2:1 Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Dimon greets the other dog displaying soft body language. When the other dog greets her too long, she becomes nervous. Her face becomes tense and she begins to lip lick. She spends most of her time keeping to herself as she wanders in the pen.
07/27/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Dimon was surrendered as a stray so her past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Dimon displays soft body language as she wanders in the pen with male and female dogs. She mostly keeps to herself. The Behavior Department believes that Dimon would be most comfortable as the only dog in the home, but a dog-dog interaction can be conducted to assess Dimon’s comfort level with a potential adopter’s dog. 7/27: Dimon greets the other dog displaying soft body language. When the other dog greets her too long, she becomes nervous. Her face becomes tense and she begins to lip lick. She spends most of her time keeping to herself as she wanders in the pen. 7/30: Dimon greets the other dogs appropriately but mostly keeps to herself as she wanders in a group with a male and female dog. 8/3: Dimon greets new dogs displaying soft body language. She explores the pen and will offer an appropriate correction for a male that attempts to mount her.
