06/09/16 15:46 BASIC INFORMATION: Diesel is a brown Mastiff mix. Diesel was given to owner as a gift & has no known health issues. Diesel was surrendered to ACC due to no longer having enough time to properly care for him. SOCIALIZATION: Diesel is friendly around certain strangers, but appears to not like strangers in uniform. He will growl & bark. When Diesel likes a stranger he loves getting pet by them. Diesel has been exposed to small children, Diesel gets along with children & adults in the home. Diesel has been exposed to other dogs & has reacted friendly towards them. Diesel has not been exposed to cats or other small animals. Diesel has not bitten or scratched another animal or person within the past 10 days. Diesel is best described as a loving, affectionate & playful dog. BEHAVIOR: Diesel does not show signs of aggression when owner touches food bowl while he is eating. Owner is able to take bone, toy or any object from his mouth with no problem. Diesel enjoys bathing and grooming, when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, he barks & makes the owner aware. Diesel does show signs of aggression, such as barking & growling when he has been exposed to people in uniform or certain strangers that may just trigger this reaction. Once Diesel gets to know stranger he calms down. Diesel does not like to be alone & will howl or bark when owner is away. Diesel may become destructive & chew on house hold items. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Diesel has a high activity level. Owners favorite things of Diesel is, he is extremely affectionate & is always there to greet the owner. he loves to play & would do best in a family home or a single person home with a lot of energy & time. Diesel has been crate trained and does well for up 8 hours. Diesel is familiar with the commands sit, stop & come. For exercise, he loves to go out for brisk walks & running in the park. Diesel will pull very hard & will give the owner a struggle when walking him, he has been kept mostly indoors & enjoys eating dry food from any brand. Diesel will go potty on grass or cement. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake, Diesel displayed a tense body & whale eyes. After some time Diesel became more open towards counselors presence & reacted friendly when he was given dog treats. Allowed all handling & scanned negative. Diesel barked and growled at another staff member from ACC that was dressed in a dark uniform.

Diesel previously lived with adults and has been around small children. The owner stated Diesel gets along well with adults and children in the home. The owner describes Diesel as loving, affectionate and playful. It was reported by the owner Diesel is house trained, crate trained and does well up to 8 hours and has a high activity level; also he can be destructive and chew on household items. According to the owner Diesel is friendly towards strangers but can be weary around strangers in uniforms, he will bark and growl but warms up to them and loves getting pet by them. At intake it was reported Diesel was tense with whale eyes but opened up and became friendly towards the counselor. He allowed all handling but then barked and growl at another staff member dressed in a dark uniform. During SAFER Diesel came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly, playful and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Diesel joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Diesel was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Previous owner stated Diesel is weary of strangers in uniform but does not reactive towards them after time he becomes friendly. Diesel is uncomfortable with the greet dogs play solicitations and begins to air snap and move away, so the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend a dog to dog interaction before being place into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: Diesel is uncomfortable with the greet dogs play solicitations and begins to air snap and move away.

According to Diesel’s previous owner, Diesel has been exposed to other dogs & has reacted friendly towards them. 6/12: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Diesel greets the other dog appropriately and is a bit nervous as he wanders in the pen. 6/13: Diesel is uncomfortable with the greet dogs play solicitations and begins to air snap and move away.
