Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Diesel came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s health issues. He is described as affectionate, playful, and energetic. It is reported Diesel lived with a five year old child, very playful and tolerant. Owner reports Diesel went to the dog park every day and played well with all dogs there. Upon intake, Diesel had soft body and wagging tail, allowing all handling. Diesel pulled slightly on leash for his relief walk. He was friendly and sociable upon entering the SAFER assessment room. Diesel allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, tail wagging. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, slight wagging tail, mouth closed. Diesel playfully engaged during Tag game, running and jumping up playfully on assessor at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Diesel playfully engaged with Toy, taking it away with soft, loose body. He approached the helper dog a bit quickly, ears forward, tail above spine level. The Behavior Team feels Diesel would do well in an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. 01/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Diesel greets politely and will allow solicitation but does not engage in play. He may posture to mount but does not; he is currently unaltered and has not yet been introduced to a male dog. His owner reports when he meets a dog on leash he “may attempt to play with them. If another dog approaches him aggressively, Diesel will run behind his owner.” Based on this information the behavior department feels that Diesel could go to a home with another calm dog. When off leash with other dogs, Diesel offers polite greeting. He postures to mount but does not fully attempt. 1/13: Diesel offers polite greeting. He is tolerant of play solicitation but does not reciprocate with play. 1/14: Diesel greets briefly. He wanders the pen and does not engage when in a pen with female dogs engaging in play. 1/15 update: Diesel greets politley before attempting to mount. However, once offered correction he will cease and explore the yard.
