06/04/17 14:33 Basic info: Diamond is an 8 year old black spayed large dog was surre4ndered to the ACC due to the fact her owner can no longer care for her due to personal problems. The owner stated that she got her as a gift and has had her since she was 3 months old. Diamond has no known medical problems. Socialization: Owner stated that around strangers Diamond is friendly and outgoing. Diamond has spent time around children all ages and she is relaxed and affectionate. The owner stated that when playing with adults and children Diamond is gentle. Diamond has spent time around a Shih-Tzu and she is relaxed and affectionate. Diamond has not spent time around cats so it is unknown how she will react. Behavior: During fireworks and loud noises Diamond isn’t bothered. She also isn’t bothered if someone touches her food treats or toys. She is friendly when restrained or if she is disturbed. She isn’t bothered if she is given a bath. When having her nails trimmed she is afraid and will struggle to get away. When someone unfamiliar approaches her house or family member she isn’t bothered. For a new family to know: Owner described Diamond as friendly and affectionate with a medium activity level. When at home she likes to follow her owner around or stay in her favorite place. Owner stated that Diamond does not really play with toys. She has been kept mostly indoors and 3eats both wet a dry food. Diamond is very much house trained and never has accident. When left alone in the house or yard she is well behaved. Diamond has never been crated so it is unknown how she will react. Diamond knowns the sit, come and down commands. She is used to slow walks on the leash. When off the leash she wanders but will come back when called.

A volunteer writes: Diamond is pot-bellied, her tail is nearly bald, and she makes snorty noises when she takes naps. In short, there’s a good possibility she is part pig!! Whatever she is, there is something so, so charming and magnetic about Miss Diamond. She trots alongside me on our walks, wags her tail at the compliments she receives from passersby (which inevitably are comments about her weight…but how well she pulls it off is implied!), and is just so unassuming and sweet. She seems housebroken, does tricks for treats, and is an unexpected fetching superstar! Her previous owner tells us she was relaxed and affectionate with a shih-tzu, she’s well-behaved when left alone, and she has a medium activity level. I think she is a GEM, please come to Brooklyn ACC and make her your best friend!

Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 6/7/17 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/ 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. He mostly keeps to herself as she explores. 6/7: Diamond displays neutral body language when greeting a female dog. She mostly keeps to herself as she explores the pen. When being introduced to a much larger dog, Diamond begins to bark and they are not introduced. 6/8: When being introduced to a novel male dog, the male dog becomes reactive towards Diamond and Diamond begins to bark back. She is then uncomfortable with a soft, social dog and begins barking and jumping towards him. 6/10- 6/12: Diamond keeps to herself with calm male and female dogs. 6/13: Diamond displays neutral body language when greeting a male dog. Once in the pen, she becomes reactive towards him, barking and lunging. The session is ended.
