A volunteer wites:

Diamond is so excited to go out and be in company…She knows the command : sit and will comply as requested. Now, we are talking..Diamond is leashed  without fuss and off we go for a walk around the block. Her first task once out is to relieve herself(her former owner says that she never has “accidents”). She definitively likes other dogs and play bows even to little ones. I heard that she was very lively and happy in playgroups with her peers. Free in a pen, Diamond is “all out”…Her tail is wagging non stop. She loves treats, searches my goodies bag but will sit for more after a few prompts. I love her ears. Only a few dogs I met over the years can do what she does..I call them “antenna” ears. They go up, down, laterally , in sync or independently of each other. It is so cute and silly. She is very friendly, comes when called, puts her head in my lap for a good head scratch and hops on the bench to give me kisses.  Diamond is a beautiful gal dressed in an elegant brindley  coat, grey and beige. She has been a mother, recently, it seems. Her feet are raw, affected by some kind of dermatitis, the very reason this wonderful dog was surrendered into our care. I imagine that proper veterinary care(that the owner could not afford anymore) and diet will manage the issue. Diamond comes otherwise with stellar comments like being good around young children,  playful , lively and loving. With a bit of TLC, pretty Diamond will make a great companion ! Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center and take her home as your forever best friend.

A volunteer writes: Diamond showed a lot of enthusiasm as I approached her cage. She repeatedly jumped up as I would go to open her cage. To which I would respond by closing it until she sat and stayed. It only took her a couple of times to understand! She pulled a lot during our walk. I gave her, what I assume was, her first heeling lesson. It actually went okay. She’s very affectionate and eager to please. She shows great promise!

BEHAVIOR :

Diamond pulls a bit on the leash.  She was calm and relaxed during handling. Diamond was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was easy to handle when chewing on toys.

Diamond was surrender to us. Her previous owner described her as a mellow, and affectionate with a medium activity level. Owner says she has been around her daughter and son who are both under 10. She says she is relaxed and playful with the daughter. Diamond is unbothered if food is touched while eating. She enjoys playing with squeaky toys and rope, and enjoys playing fetch and tug. Diamond has been crate-trained with a metal crate and owner says she does well with it”.Diamond did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw.
Toy 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you.
Playgroup Notes:
When off leash with other dogs, Diamond is aroused with ah igh tail when greeting.  She continually sniffs and remains tense and aroused.
4/29 update: Diamond is a bit tense.  She briefly engages, but when offering correction becomes aroused and escalates.
