01/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
SAFER Update: 1/8/16 Diamond previously lived with adults and has been around children. The owner stated Diamond is relaxed and playful towards them everyone in the household. The owner mentioned Diamond is house trained and has a high activity level. It was reported by the owner Diamond will try to bite when you try to touch her food or takes treats away from her mouth. At intake it was reported Diamond was friendly and enjoyed belly rubs, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Diamond came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Diamond was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Diamond was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner Diamond will try to bite when attempting to take away food, toys and treats. Diamond has a previous bite history in 2011 when Diamond was in a room and the 3 year old child tried to give her food and was bitten on left hand with a puncture wound. Due to some concerns with Diamond attempting to bite when attempting to remove food, toys and treats away and also her previous bite history in 2011. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body a bit tense, mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Diamond greets briefly and allows reciprocal sniffs but spends most of the time exploring the yard.
