09/18/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I like to call him Denero the wonder dog! 🙂 Not because he’s a superhero, but because everything in the world seems new and fascinating to him. Whether it’s a plastic bag blowing in the wind, a couple of flapping pigeons, or a metal grate on the ground, Denero is happy to explore it (or maybe just stare at it for a little while). Denero and his brother Milez (A1089098) were found together in an abandoned building, and both seem so excited to have a chance to get outside and see the things they never have before. Denero walks perfectly beside me on a leash, never trying to pull or get ahead, and gets the cutest look on his face when his face wrinkles up in deep thought about what he’s seeing. Denero loves to give kisses (in fact, he tends to try to go for a full-on makeout session), watch birds (but doesn’t seem interested in chasing them), and say hi to everyone he passes. Come and see Denero today, I promise you won’t regret it!
09/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Police came in with two dogs that were found in an abandoned building. Denero came into the Care Center as a stray along with Milez; both dogs were said to be friendly upon intake. Both dogs were easy to handle and allowed all handling by the counselor. During SAFER Denero came into the assessment room calm and relaxed he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Denero was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Denero was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Denero appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is opened for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1 Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed, and lick hand. Toy 1: 1. He is social, checking in on the female dog often as he explores the pen.
09/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Denero was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Denero rushes to greet the male and female dogs displaying soft body language. He continually greets other dogs but listens to their corrections and walks away. He whines throughout the session. The Behavior Department recommends that Denero be placed in a home with social dogs that match Denero’s calm energy level. 9/9: Denero greets the other dog displaying soft body language and a low, wagging tail. He is social, checking in on the female dog often as he explores the pen. 9/10-9/13: Denero rushes to greet the male and female dogs displaying soft body language. He continually greets other dogs but listens to their corrections and walks away. He whines throughout the session. 9/20: Denero greets a male dog displaying soft body language but becomes uncomfortable when the male attemps to mount him.
