12/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults/teenager Behavior toward children: None reported Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: Demi will growl and snap if her food is touched while eating or if a treat is taken away Bite history: None reported Housetrained: No Energy level/descriptors: Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/9/16 Summary: Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Demi is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. Demi was very anxious in the assessment room, she would whine and pull away from the assessor when trying to coax her. Demi would try to exit out the assessment room any chance she gets. She would avoid all interaction with the handler and becomes more anxious and frustrated. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. PLAYGROUP: Demi’s previous owner stated that Demi has never been around other cats or dogs. When off leash at the care center, Demi is introduced to a novel male dog. She anxiously paces and initially ignores him, and then she mounts him. As she mounts him, her arousal level begins to increase and the session is ended. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/9/16 During her medical examination, Demi was very nervous and sensitive to touch, she allowed minimal handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the fear/avoidance behavior displayed in the care center, we cannot fully evaluate Demi and feel that she will be best set up to succeed through placement with a New Hope partner. We recommend only positive reinforcement-based, force-free training for Demi as aversive methods are likely to heighten fear and increase aggression.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Demi is extremely nervous around strangers and can be difficult to handle. She has no bite history but shows clear signs of discomfort. It is important to respect those signs and to help Solo gain comfort and confidence in order to avoid escalation.) _X_Resource guarding

12/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
