08/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “Devoted to” is the meaning of the name Demetri as defined by Wikipedia, and based on his loving kisses and wagging tail I have to say that Demetri is perfectly named. He’s absolutely gorgeous reflecting good care prior to joining us as a stray. So happy to be out for a chance to go potty he peed endlessly the moment we were out the door. Demetri pulls slightly on leash and considering how enthusiastically this boy embraces all things that says a lot. He’s super friendly happy to give a stand up hug and a kiss to anyone who welcomes one (and why wouldn’t you?). Posing for pictures like a pro he made a perfect model making my job easy and we then took a water break, Demetri standing up at the water fountain ready to drink from the spout! I had a bowl for him so that wasn’t necessary but it’s clear that Demetri has done this before and it’s adorable. Although it was so hot both of our tongues were hanging out we snuggled for a bit on the bench, Demetri giving me nice kisses as we watched some kids play ball. Greeting the playgroup helper dogs with a “wiggly” body, Demetri seems to like other dogs as he was also interested in dogs we passed in the park. Enthusiastic, friendly, loving and fun, Demetri is ready to prove to his new person and/or family how appropriately he’s named. Are you ready for a lifetime of devotion? He is, so come meet him today!
08/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Demtri came to the care center after being abandoned in an apartment. The person who found him had him for three days and reported that Demitri liked to play fetch and tug and knew the cues sit, stay, come, and give paw. During intake, Demitri was wiggly and jumping on the people. On his relief walk, he pulled hard. Upon entering the assessment room, he displayed a high level of energy, jumping around in a friendly manner. He jumped up and licked the assessor during Look, body soft and tail wagging. He was difficult to position for Sensitivity and needed to be walked around and reset two times before successfully positioned. Once positioned, his body was soft with tail wagging and ears back. He jumped on the assessor during Tag, excited with wagging tail and loose body, and grabbed the leash in his mouth. He licked the assessor’s hand on both Squeeze attempts and did not pull back his paw. He played with the Toy and easily relinquished it. When introduced off leash in the care center, Demetri greets the female greeter dog with a ‘wiggly’ body, and also greets a male dog through the gate with the same body language. The Behavior Team recommends that Demitri go to an Experienced home with no young children. And in depth interaction with any older children is recommended. He would benefit from positive reinforcement training and will need daily physical exercise, such as walks and runs, and mental stimulation, such as Kongs and puzzle toys. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, lip licking, jumps up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog jumps on assessor and grabs leash in mouth twice. Body is loose, tail is wagging, playful. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Dog licks hand. Toy 1: 1. Dog play with you, will relinquish toy to you. Dog to Dog: When introduced off leash in the care center, Demetri greets the female greeter dog with a ‘wiggly’ body, and also greets a male dog through the gate with the same body language.
08/16/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/16: Demetri arrived into our care as a stray, so there is no available history of previous interaction with other dogs. When introduced off leash in the care center, Demetri greets the female greeter dog with a ‘wiggly’ body, and also greets a male dog through the gate with the same body language. He eventually displays sexually motivated behaviors, and it can be taken into consideration that he is unaltered. The behavior team feels that Demetri could be adopted into a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction.
