03/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: It’s hard to imagine that after potentially having a dog for seven years you wouldn’t have anything to say about Deebo when dropping him off in our care. Surrendered because his owner had “no time” for him, he was left without any nuggets of information. No report on how Deebo is with other animals, what his favorite treats or toys were, or any cute anecdotes describing his past 7 years. It does seem that he hasn’t received the best of care in recent past: he’s missing fur, his elbows are calloused, he’s underweight and his teeth might suggest he hasn’t had the best of nutrition. He’s been placed on special food to help his stomach settle and to put on weight. Upon meeting Deebo, I could tell he didn’t seem too pleased to find himself in his kennel. Anxious and panting, the stress he was feeling of finding himself in a new place was palpable. Outside we went, and while Deebo’s anxiety was still present, it slowly began to wane. He’s a Velcro dog: he wants to stay close, so close that it was nearly impossible to get a picture of him! If I moved one way, he was only a step behind, following my every move. When I sat down, he almost immediately sprawled himself across my lap, eager to give me kisses, looking at me hopefully for the next treat or kind word that I had to offer. Deebo does pull on the leash, but he seems really housebroken and just eager to do his “business.” Though, we don’t know much about Deebo’s past we do hope that he has a much brighter future. Ask to meet him today.
03/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Deebo came in as an owner surrender, there was no information provided at this time. At intake it was reported Deebo was energetic with loose body posture, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Deebo came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Deebo was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Deebo was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Deebo appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2.
