Dee Dee
Hello, my name is Dee Dee. My animal id is #15568. I am a female gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 06-Dec-2017.
Dee Dee is at risk for medical reasons, having been diagnosed with Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex, which is contagious to other dogs. We suggest that Dee Dee would be best suited to a dog experienced home.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: “Doo-bee-doo-bee-doo.” That’s what you’ll find yourself singing aloud after your first encounter with Dee Dee. No need to be embarrassed. Anyone would be hearing birds and seeing stars at just the sight of this sweet, silver beauty. Now Dee Dee was a tough gal too meet given her popularity. You see when word on the street is that you’re a playgroup star and a volunteer favorite your schedule, well it gets tight. Fortunately I finally got my “in” with this wondrous wonder and oh, did she not disappoint. Dee Dee is easily leashed and in no time we’re off, off to see what’s left of the snow. She walks nicely at my side, looking up often to check in, (“Too quick?” “Too cold?” “Just right?”) before we settle in for some off-leash fun. “Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la.” That’s just what find myself singing aloud the minute I don dear Dee Dee with her festive, holiday scarf. She bounds about happily with it, coming back often for a kiss and a snuggle, and most importantly, a rub of the tush. Dee Dee comes to us as a stray so much of her past is unknown. We do know she is an easy girl, a lover of people, of cuddles and snacks, and happiest when all are nearby. “La-dee-da…dee-dee-dee-dee-dee-dee.” That’s what you’ll be singing the day you meet your new best friend, the happiest tune you’ll ever know. The song in your ear, ’round your head, and in your heart. And, “Welcome home.” Music to Dee Dee’s ears. Dee Dee is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan ACC.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Dee Dee so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: DeeDee has showed social behaviors towards both novice and familiar handlers, and seeks comfort from them when uncomfortable.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations comments:: Single pet home/no dog parks: Due to Dee Dee’s high level of discomfort displayed while interacting with other dogs, a single pet home is recommended.
Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control
Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended.
