04/22/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/22/16 18:06 Dee is a 3 year old male American Pit-Bull Terrier. She was given to owner as a gift and has been in their care since a puppy. He is being surrendered into our facility due to owner’s health. There are no known health injuries or problems. With stranger he is described as being friendly and play gentle with adults. He has lived with children ages 8 and 12 and is relaxed, playful and gentle. He also lived with both male and female American Pit-Bull terriers and is relaxed and gentle with them he will not show agression unless provoked. Has no experience with being around cats. There is no known history of her biting another person; he did bite another animal NOt within the last 10 days and no vet was seen. (See Behavior Memo) Behavior wise he does destroy stuff indoors (previous owner toys weren’t provided). During fireworks or storm he will panic. You are able to touch his food bowl while he is eating and take object or treats away from him. When it bath time he isn’t bothered and is friendly; has never had his nails trimmed nor his coat brushed. He isn’t bothered when being held or restrained and when unfamiliar people approach you or the home. Dee is described as being friendly and excitable with a high activity level that will do best in a family home. His favorite activity is being with her owner or following you around. He was indoors only and slept anywhere comfortable or with her owner. He ate rice, chicken or cornmeal provided and cooked by owner 2 times a day. He will eat dry food but if he isn’t use to it she will get sick. He is house trained and didnt have any accidents within the home. When left alone when not provided toys he destroys household items and potty indooors if left for a very long time. When left alone in the yard he is well behaved and likes to run and play. He knows such commands as “come”. For exercise he plays in the yard; familiar with being on the eash he pull lightly. Off leash he will wander was taken to a park to run but will come when called. Usually he will potty on the grass. When hungry or ready to go out he will come and sniff you.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Dee is one part shy and ten parts sweet! When I first met him he was visibly trembling, but would still approach me to get pet and make soft eye contact. He can still be timid if there’s commotion and might cower if you make a big movement, but he is very affectionate and even playful. He’ll kiss my nose, crawl into my lap, and celebrate afterwards with adorable spin moves and play bows. He previously lived with other dogs, but did have a scuffle with his father (I’m sure we can all relate to that!). He has done very well with other dogs he’s met at the care center, is very quiet in his cage, and seems very housebroken. He walks very nicely on leash and often looks up at me to check in. He doesn’t seem to know commands, but when I give him treats just for being him he takes them very gently. There are many other parts to Dee, but the only thing that will make him whole is to be part of a family. Please come meet this loving, sensitive, fun boy at Brooklyn ACC and see if he might have a place in yours!
04/27/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dee previously lived with 2 adults and children ages 8 and 12 years old. The owner stated Dee is relaxed, playful and gentle towards adults and children. The owner mentioned Dee is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone in the yard. It was reported by the owner Dee will destroy house hold items if he’s not provided with toys. The owner also stated Dee lived with 2 other pit bulls and they were relaxed and playful towards each other. The owner describes Dee as friendly and excitable. An incident occurred between Dee and his father more than two weeks ago. Client stated that the Father was the one who is reactive. The bite was located on legs and neck of the father, the damage was red marks/ scratches, punctures around 4 marks and bruising, treatment was washed at home no outside care. After the bite occurred Dee held and shook his head, bit multiple times in a row then retreated but the client went to stress that Dee isn’t reactive and won’t react with another animal unless he is provoked. At intake it was reported Dee was very tense with his tail tucked, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Dee came into the assessment room nervous and tense, he was friendly and social towards the assessor with a slow approach. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Dee was fearful with his body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Dee was easy to handle when engaged with the item. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend a thorough dog to dog interaction before being place into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is fearful and trembles, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body tense, trembles and mouth closed. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Dee approaches and greets with a soft, neutral body. He is slightly nervous with a tucked tail but does interact with the helper dog. However, Dee spends most of the time exploring the yard.
04/24/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Dee approaches and greets with a soft, neutral body. He is slightly nervous with a tucked tail but does interact with the helper dog. However, Dee spends most of the time exploring the yard. 4/28- 5/3 update: Dee met both a male and female at the gate with a soft body. The other male was removed before he entered the pen due to exhaustion. Once in the pen he exchanges sniff with the female dog then begins to wander. He joins in chase-play when the other dog solicits it and even gives a few play bows and body spins during play. 5/4: Dee was used as a greeter dog today. He greets softly, is a bit bouncy, is respectful of fearful dogs and tolerant of persistent play solicitation.
