03/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Debo previously lived with 2 adults and resided with a 6 year old child. The owner stated Debo likes to jump up and give hugs; he may be too strong for young children. The owner describes Debo as friendly, affectionate and playful. The owner mentioned Debo is house trained, crate trained and does well for up to 4 hours, has a very high activity level and is well behaved when home alone and in the yard. It was reported by the owner Debo may pull hard on leash when he is walked. At intake it was reported Debo appeared friendly but when attempt to collar, Debo growled and lunged at the counselor. He allowed some handling. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Debo is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. Debo was not tolerant during the medical exam he would become reactive and lunge at the technician. In the kennel Debo can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
