02/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dean came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Dean was tense with firm body posture, he growled with his head low and tail tucked. He allowed limited handling. During SAFER Dean came into the assessment room tense and nervous. This behavior was maintained when entering the behavior assessment room. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Dean growled at the assessor when attempting to clip the leash on his collar. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Dean is extremely fearful of everything in his environment and enters the pen slowly, with a rolled body and tucked tail. However, upon greeting the helper dog at the gate he does relax his body a bit and lifts his head suggesting he is interested in meeting. Once the gate is open, he does allow the other dog to sniff and exchanges sniffs but due to his fear of many of the other things in the environment, Dean quickly shuts down again.
