06/04/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/04/16 09:56 Daphne A1076214 was found tied to a fence in the Bronx on 6/3/2016. The finder stated that he did not want to leave her out in the street so he took her home. He also owns two small dogs of his own that he kept separate in the hom eto avoid any conflicts. He fed her Beneful dry dog food. She was friendly with the small children in the apartment building but barks when strangers approach her. Behavior during intake Daphne barked when staff approached. She was frightened of the scanner and nibbled on the scanner. She tried to hide behind her finder. After a few minutes she warmed up and allowed some handling. The finder collared her. She allowed me to leash her and take off her harness but barked throughout handling. She sat for her photos and was then walked and transferred into a kennel.
06/18/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: If I had a dollar for every person who told me how beautiful my dog is, I’d be well on my way to riches!!! Daphne is gorgeous, her light gold coat soft and luxurious, her darker golden eyes soft and sweet. Daphne was found tied up, and a good Samaritan brought her home for a couple of days telling us that she was friendly with the small children in the apartment building. Daphne is a bit shy, and is curious about everything she sees. Squirrels???? Hmmm, maybe fun to chase? Other dogs? Should we meet? Posing for pictures like a super model, she makes soft eye contact as I snap way. Daphne sniffed and rejected my treats, perhaps used to better. She eventually came up into my lap for a kiss, but it takes a while to gain this girl’s affection. But, we all know that the best things in life are worth waiting for! Off leash in a pen, Daphne chases a ball, but is waiting for her new person or family to teach her how to retrieve. Gorgeous, bright, alert and curious, Miss Daphne is hoping to meet her new person or family today. Another volunteer writes: Our Daphne has an important job – she’s a ‘Corporate Helper Dog’. So, when she’s not snuggling on an available lap, not out for a walk with volunteers who love her, not romping in playgroup with other dogs, she’s introducing herself to our corporate volunteers spreading the word about the great dogs at the Care Center waiting for adoption. She loves to play with a ball, happily jumping up on the bench to sit with whomever is there, quietly enjoying the attention. Daphne is ready to find her forever lap, her life partner. Come meet her today.
06/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Daphne came into our center after a member of the public found her tied to a fence. Finder took her home briefly where she came in contact with small children, friendly with them. She barked if strangers approached. Daphne was friendly upon entering SAFER assessment room, displaying energy and movement, jumped up onto handler’s lap. She was wiggly during positioning for tactile portions of assessment. Once positioned, she allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, relaxed. Daphne stood still during Sensitivity item, ears back. Daphne became focused on grabbing and tugging with the leash during Tag game, slight playful vocalization, difficult to redirect. She required stepping out of the room to reset before Squeeze item. Daphne pulled her paw back on first Squeeze attempt, moved her body away during second attempt. Daphne showed no interest in Toy, focused on the leash being held by the handler. When off leash with other dogs, Daphne ignores greeting and keeps to herself. The Behavior Team feels Daphne would do best with an Experienced adopter. She would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and focus. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. focused on grabbing and tugging leash, difficult to settle at end, requiring a reset walk out of the room Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back paw Squeeze 2: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Toy 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Daphne ignores greeting and keeps to herself.
