09/21/17 14:13 Basic information Dante A1126183 is an 1 yr old large dog that was surrendered due to moving. Dante was found as a stray and kept by the previous owner for 4 months. Dante has never suffered any health issues or injuries while with the previous owner. Dante visited the vet june, 16th 2017 for a round of shots. Socialization Dante is described as being initially shy for a moment, but overall friendly when around strangers. Dante has never been exposed to any children or other animals. Dante plays gently with adults. Behavior Dante hasn’t bitten anyone or animal within the past 10 days. Dante has no previous bite history while with the previous owner for the past 4 months. Dante isn’t bothered by the following: loud or sudden movements, having his food bowl touched or taken away, having items removed from his mouth. Dante is house trained and hasn’t had an accidents while with the pervious owner. For a New Family to Know Dante is described as affectionate and energetic with a mid-high activity level. When home he normally follows his owner around, and enjoys toy balls and rope. Dante was fed a mix of wet and dry food, pedigree. Dante behaves when home alone, and understands the command sit. Behavior during Intake Dante was very friendly during. Dante scanned negative. Allowed all handling.

Dog attempts to bite. Summary: Dante appeared anxious in the assessment room, pawing at the door, pacing, and panting. When the assessor began to interact with him, he became quickly over aroused. He jumped up, growled, and snapped, so the handling portion of the assessment was not conducted. When in possession of the toy, he attempted to bite the hand when it touched the toy. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Dante is anxious and avoidant when attempt is made to have him greet the female greeter dog. He eventually sniffs her before pacing the pens. He tolerates the greeters paw slap and assertive behavior. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 09/21/2017 Dante was friendly during intake and allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 09/22/2017 During his initial medical examination, Dante was loose and friendly though whale eyed upon some handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Dante is reported to have medium to high activity level in a home environment in line with what we have seen in the care center. We recommend daily mental and physical stimulation as an outlet to direct his energy and enthusiasm.

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to the very high level of guarding and the low level of arousal Dante has displayed at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Dante has displayed a very high level of resource guarding and low level of arousal seen at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Dante to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Dante to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Dante presents with outside of the care centers. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding: Dante has displayed a very high level of resource guarding at the care center, attempting to bite the hand when it came near the toy he was in possession of. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Dante’s possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment. _X_Social hyper-arousal: Dante has displayed low threshold for arousal, rapidly escalating and quickly tipping over to aggression, jumping up and growling and snapping at the assessor. Immediate intervention and consultation with a qualified veterinary behaviorist/professional trainer is strongly recommended to aid in addressing this issue to prevent further behavioral concerns that may appear in the future if not treated right away. We recommend only force-free, reward based training when introducing or exposing Dante to new and unfamiliar situations. _X_Anxiety: Dante displays a high level of anxiety in the care center, panting and pacing in the assessment room. We do not know if this behavior will appear in a new home environment. If it does, we recommend positive reinforcement, force-free training only. _X_Leash-biting
