BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: Place with a New Hope partner: Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Dallas be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Dallas to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Dallas to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Dallas presents with outside of the care centers. No children (under 13): Due to his multiple bite history in addition to the behavior concerns outlined below, we believe Dallas should be placed in an adult only home.
Potential challenges: : Social hyperarousal,Handling/touch sensitivity,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Social hyperarousal: Dallas has displayed low threshold for arousal, rapidly escalating and quickly tipping over to aggression (examples, description, elaboration.) Immediate intervention and consultation with a qualified veterinary behaviorist/professional trainer is strongly recommended to aid in addressing this issue to prevent further behavioral concerns that may appear in the future if not treated right away. We recommend only force-free, reward based training when introducing or exposing Tetris to new and unfamiliar situations. Handling sensitivity: Dallas has escalated to biting when handled in certain areas, showing discomfort with touch in certain areas. It is important to be cautious when touching him in other areas as we do not know where he may have other sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Dallas to be more comfortable with this. Multiple bite history/risk of future aggression
