MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
10/23/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 1 – NORMAL , Behavior Rating is NH ONLY, Weight 56.4 LBS.
IN-SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Dakota has displayed inconsistent behavior during her stay at our care centers; though at times observed to be seemingly human-social, Dakota appears to startle upon certain approach, unable to readily recover, attempting to flee. Dakota has also been observed to be wary of certain movement and highly cautious/uncomfortable upon some forms of direct touch, becoming withdrawn/timid, also unable easily achieve recovery. In additional, Dakota remains highly dog reactive on leash away from the care centers and on one occasion re-directed onto to handler, biting hand, no broken skin. For these reasons along with known history, the behavior department recommends Dakota be placed with a New Hope placement partner that can provide an experienced foster home who can safely and appropriately manage this behavior in a stable environment. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No young children (under 5) _X_No children (under 13)(See known history) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Because of behavior concerns observed in-shelter and reported in home, it is highly recommended Dakota be placed with a New Hope placement partner that can safely/appropriate manage her behavior outside of the care centers. Consultation with a professional trainer/veterinary behaviorist is highly advised.) Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach her to control her impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.) _X_Potential for defensive aggression(Due to her previous history, along with inconsistent in-shelter observations, we cannot be certain if Dakota has suppressed any behavior as a result of a stressful shelter environment.) _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration (See In-Shelter Observations; Consistent with owner surrender notes, Dakota displays a low threshold for arousal/dog reactivity while on leash and has attempted to lunge/growl/bark/snarl at passerby animals.)

10/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Dakota has displayed playful behavior off leash with other dogs in the care center. She engages in rough, running chase play. Her previous owner cites “When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or her home she growls, barks and may lunge at them.” No further detail was provided. The behavior department feels that based on observation made while in our care and by the previous owner, Dakota would benefit from slow, monitored introductions with unfamiliar dogs in the future. It is unknown exactly how behavior observed in our care will translate into a home. 10/21: When off leash with two males Dakota greets with a tense body but relaxes after greeting. She offers bows and slaps to solicit chase and is tolerant when one of the males is mouthy. Dakota offers a strong corerction (loud bark and brief chase) when mounted. 10/22: Dakota engages in rough, running play with a group of male dogs. 10/23: Dakota engages in bouts of running play.
