02/20/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/20/16 15:07 Basic Information: Dakota is a 2 year old Alaskan Husky who was bought from a pet store as a puppy. She was surrendered because of her health. She has nerve damage in her back legs. The last time she went to the vet was in October of 2015. Socialization: Around strangers Dakota is friendly and outgoing and when she plays with adults she is gentle. She has spent time with children ages 3 and up and she is relaxed and playful and when she plays she is gentle. She lived with dogs and cats and she is also relaxed and playful and when she plays she is gentle. Behavior: Dakota has never attempted to bite a person or animal. She is not afraid of storms or fireworks. If she is eating and her previous owner attempted to touch her food bowl she would growl. She was friendly if a treat was taken away from her. She is playful if a toy was taken away from her. She isn’t bothered if she is pushed off furniture. She is afraid of the bath but tolerates it. She is friendly if her coat is brushed, if she is held or restrained, if an unfamiliar person approached her home or previous owner. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while sleeping. For a New Family to Know: Dakota is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and excitable. Her activity level is very high and the two things her previous owner liked most about her were; she’s very sweet and calms her down. When her previous owner was home she would tend to follow them around. Her previous owner felt she would do best in a big and active home. She likes to play with balls and stuffed toys, and her favorite games are fetching and tug. She was kept indoors only. She eats both dry and wet Benefit dog food. Her favorite treats are T-bones. She is house-trained but had accidents a few times a month. When left alone in the home she is well-behaved. She was crate trained but no longer needs it. She knows how to sit, come and give paw. For exercise she went on off leash walks and running in the park 2 times a day. On the leash she pulls very hard and when off leash she wanders but comes when called. Behavior during intake: Dakota allowed me to pet her and take pictures. When I approached her while she with her owners in her crate she did growl at me but then she sniffed my hand.

02/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Dakota came into our center as an owner surrender due to health concerns, mainly nerve damage in her hind legs. Owner reports she has lived with dogs, cats, and children, relaxed and gentle around them, may growl if someone approaches her food while she is eating. Owner describes her as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable. Owner reports she was housetrained and crate trained. During intake, Dakota allowed handling but growled from inside crate when approached by staff at first, then sniffed admission counselor’s hand. Due to Dakota’s overall medical condition (most notably the hindlimb nerve damage), she is not a candidate for a SAFER assessment at this time. Our inability to fully assess behavior, in combination with owner surrender profile from previous home, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can address her medical condition and then re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment.
