09/09/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/09/17 18:33 Basic information: Daisy is a 7 year old, spayed, medium size dog. She was adopted from ACC and previous owner had her for 3 weeks. Unfortunately, previous owner had to surrender due to behavior and allergies. They have not taken Daisy to the vet since she was adopted. Socialization: Daisy is friendly with strangers and adults. She plays gently with everyone. She is respectful and playful with other dogs and plays gently with them too. She has never been around children or cats so owner is unsure how she will react. Behavior: Daisy will growl when someone tries to take her food, treats, or toys away from her. She will growl and snap when getting a bath, being brushed or having paws touched. She isn’t bothered when being held or being pushed off furniture or disturbed while sleeping. She will bark when someone knocks on door. For a new family to know: Daisy is a friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, independent dog that has a low energy level. She is very affectionate and enjoys being hand fed. She will be in the same room as you. She loves stuffed toys and socks. She is mostly indoors and goes on wee wee pads in the house. She is very house trained. She sleeps on her bed next to the owner and loves milk bone treats. She is well behaved when left alone and knows her commands and name. She doesn’t really like being leashed but when she is walking on a leash she will pull hard. She was eating home cooked food. Upon intake, Daisy was relaxed and laying down next to previous owner. When counselor tried to put leash on her she growled but was ok after some positive praise. She jumped up on counselor and allowed to be pet.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Daisy is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding: Daisy has been observed to growl over toys, food and treats in the home. We recommend that Daisy be left alone while eating, and that guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Daisy’s mouth, and any time something is removed she should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. She should be taught the “drop” cue and trade-up games. _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Daisy has bared teeth when her paw was handled, showing discomfort with touch in certain areas. It is important to avoid touching Daisey’s paws at this time and being cautious when touching him in other areas as we do not know where she may have other sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Daisy to be more comfortable with this. _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Daisy is fearful at the care center and has snapped at times. It is important to always go slow and give Daisy the option to walk away from any social interaction. Daisy should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Daisy’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Daisy would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.
