08/16/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
8/16/16 6:46pm BASIC INFORMATION: Daisy is a spayed 10 year old pit bull terrier mix that was adopted from another shelter 10 years ago. She has been to a veterinarian and although it is reported that she is drinking excessive water, the veterinarian they went to stated that it is likely due to a hormonal imbalance. SOCIALIZATION: According to the owner, around strangers, Daisy is nervous and shy so may snap at someone; but she has never bitten anyone or another animal. She has not been around children since she tends to be nervous around people she is not familiar with. However, she is friendly with people that she knows well. BEHAVIOR: Daisy is described as an independent dog that will play rough or gentle, depending on how the person she knows is playing with her. She really enjoys chewing on chew toys or bones and really enjoys playing fetch. Daisy always relives herself outside; she usually pulls on the leash when walking outside. She wanders the backyard but will quickly come to you when called. She isn’t bothered when you take away, toys or food – she even stops eating her food if you ask her to. Per the previous owner, she is very obedient and has graduated obedience school. Daisy knows: sit, heel, stop, come, or when she is nervous, ask her to come and calm down and she will focus on her handler as opposed to the object that is making her nervous. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Daisy eats Purina dry food and loves to eat table food, especially grilled chicken. However, she is not fed canned food since it tends to give her diarrhea. The previous owner stated that Daisy loves taking a bath and getting her coat brushed. Daisy is said to be a very sweet dog and listens to you when you talk to her or ask her to do something. The previous owner said Daisy is very scared of thunderstorms and fireworks. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: Daisy was nervous upon intake. She slowly sniffed my hand and followed me when I called her and spoke to her softly. Daisy appeared nervous with all the noise and the dogs barking.

08/23/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Daisy came into our center as an owner surrender on 8/16/2016. According to the owner, around strangers, Daisy is nervous and shy so may snap at someone; but she has never bitten anyone or another animal. She has not been around children since she tends to be nervous around people she is not familiar with. However, she is friendly with people that she knows well. Owner reports Daisy is housebroken to use the bathroom outdoors. She is reportedly not bothered if anyone touches her Food, Toys, or Treats. Owner reports Daisy knows the cues: sit, heel, stop, come, or when she is nervous, ask her to come and calm down and she will focus on her handler as opposed to the object that is making her nervous. Daisy was nervous upon intake, slowly sniffing admissions counselor’s hand when spoken to gently. Daisy walked well on leash for her relief walk. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, relaxed. Daisy stood still during Sensitivity item, tail tucked. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. Daisy did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She showed minimal interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports she really enjoys chewing on chew toys or bones, and really enjoys playing fetch. When off leash with other dogs, Daisy is very polite when greeted by a social female. Daisy often sat on the bench next to handler and even hiding behind the handler at times. Daisy did not engage when play was offered from a female dog, she was trembling while sitting on the bench. The Behavior Team feels Daisy would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children. She may benefit initially from going home to a calm, quiet, structured environment. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is tucked Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
