01/24/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our DaVinci has both his ears and they are as cute as can be, framing his adorable face! His caramel coat is perfectly groomed, his weight perfect for his size, and he’s equal parts playful and snuggly! As I unlatched his kennel door he sat to be leashed making it so easy for me. He’s likely housetrained ‘going’ as soon as we were out the door and pulls on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or leash training. Wanting to meet everyone we passed on our walk, Da Vinci’s tail wags with fun. Off leash he plays, he snuggles and he greets everyone who passes our pen. Up on the bench with me he snuggles in close, washing my face with kisses and then jumping down to greet a dog in another pen. In group play he’s bouncy and offers play bows to the helper dog. Wiggly, snuggly, playful and energetic Da Vinci is looking for an active home where nice walks, playtime and lots of snuggle time are on the daily ‘to do’ list. Ask to meet him today.
01/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Da Vinci pulls hard on the leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Da Vinci was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He shows minimal interest with toys he licks it and then turns away. Da Vinci came in as stray. His founder had him for a few weeks. The founder stated that he get along with stranger and he lived with a cat but Da Vinci Kept a distance from the cat’s and seemed scared”. Da Vinci did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick toy, then turn away. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Da Vinci greets briefly. He sniffs and postures to mount the female greeter. He briefly runs along with play but has the ultimate intent to resume with attempting to mount.
01/21/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Da Vinci is sexually motivated but will engage in play with a female who is energetic and solicitous. He has not yet been introduced to a male but when greeting through the gate he will stiffen, growl and bark. He entered the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on observations seen in the the care center the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with other dogs and to not place him into a home with a male. When off leash with other dogs, Da Vinci greets briefly. He sniffs and postures to mount the female greeter. He briefly runs along with play but has the ultimate intent to resume with attempting to mount. 1/22 update: Da Vinci engages in bouncy running play, offering bows and paw slaps to the helper dog. When play ceases he will attempt to mount. 1/26: Da Vinci is a bit sexually motivated and becomes anxious while out in the yard, pacing, whining, and vocalizing in response to outside stimuli. 1/27: Da Vinci is anxious and distracted while in the yard, and ignores any greeting from the other dog in the pen. 1/28 update: Da Vinci enters the pen and whines at the door. When the other dog approaches and begins to solicit he eventually turns and begins to engage in running play, with intention to mount her.
