A volunteer writes: Spanky is one half of the cutest couple (came in with Cocoa A1112536) Spanky is a cute, spunky, little fella, he’s a bit shy at first but allowed me to hold him and take him for a walk. He perked up and was happy to see his house mate Cocoa out for a walk. Spanky is a nice dog who is looking for a place to live out his golden years. If you are interested in adopting Spanky please come to the Care Center he’s ready and waiting.
05/23/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Date of intake 5/19/2017 Neutered male, owner surrender SAFER ASSESSMENT: Date of assessment 5/23/2017 Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Summary: Spanky will not allow collaring, head flips to avoid allowing assessor to touch the area. It is uncertain to what extent this may be due to sensitivity from dental disease. Out of concern for his stress levels, we feel Spanky is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 5/19/2017 During his initial medical exam, Spanky allowed handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Spanky so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Spanky has displayed a low level of energy. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope _X_Place with a New Hope partner – Due to Spanky’s warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity- Spanky has been noted to become uncomfortable, especially when a person is reaching around his head and neck area. It is important to avoid touching Spanky’s head and neck until he is given appropriate medical attention
