Cranberry Bliss
Hello, my name is Cranberry Bliss. My animal id is #12508. I am a female tan dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 13-Nov-2017.
Cranberry Bliss is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Cranberry Bliss is Suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
A volunteer writes: I’m not sure if it’s the endearing combination of her shabby coat (which is getting less shabby by the day…she had a bad case of fleas) and her upbeat attitude, but there is just something about Cranberry Bliss! She has the kindest eyes, the cutest gap-toothed smile, and just radiates warmth. She isn’t bad on leash, has the best wiggly tail wag, and sometimes nuzzles my hand as we’re walking (I like to think of it as a cheers to friendship!). She seems housebroken, has been social with other dogs in our playgroups, and is very treat-motivated. She absolutely loves toys, but seems just as excited about a squeaky lobster as she is about having someone to sprawl out next to while she chomps on it. She is really fun to be around, and just when I thought she couldn’t get any more charming, sometimes she howls at me when I put her back in her kennel…the sweetest! Please come meet this lovely lady at Brooklyn ACC!
My medical notes are…

She is somewhat sensitive with rear sniffs, but manages herself by moving away and exploring the pens. 11/15: Cranberry Bliss quickly spins away and displays appropriate warnings (bare teeth and grumbles) when introduced to a playful puppy. She attempts to move away when he sniffs her rear. 11/16-21: In a group of calm dogs, Cranberry Bliss mostly keeps to herself, while exploring the pens. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to potential toy guarding behavior. Cranberry Bliss gave an appropriate warning of her discomfort (Stiff) but we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Cranberry can be left alone while playing so she does not need to escalate to a growl. Behavior modification for food guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org.
Potential challenges: : Resource guarding
Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Cranberry Bliss is reported to become stiff with toy resources. It is important to leave Cranberry alone while she is playing and never to take anything directly from her mouth. When she is asked to drop something she should be traded for an item of equal or higher value, in order to reward Cranberry for relinquishing the item she has.
