07/16/2017 WEB MEMO
A staff member writes: You know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you eat cotton candy? Yep. That’s the same feeling I get when I cuddle with Corra. She’s a little squishy button who I can push and squeeze ever so gently, and she’ll solicit the cutest little smile in return. Her previous owner was so confident that she could land herself in a nice home, and while that may be true, there’s only one way to find out! Come meet pretty Corra at Manhattan ACC today to experience the fuzzy feeling Corra has to offer.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Summary: Due to limited dog-dog interactions here at the care centers, we recommend Corra have slow introductions to resident dogs in a home. 7/16: When greeting a female dog on-leash, Corra pulls towards the dog with interest, then greets the dog softly and licks the other dog’s face. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Corra was tense. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/27/17 During her initial medical exam, Corra was tense and growled. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Corra so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to Corra’s bite history, we recommend an adult only home. _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Corra’s bite history, the behavior department recommends Corra be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Corra to acclimate comfortably to her new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Corra to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Corra presents with outside of the care centers Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Corra has bitten when fearful. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Corra as more aversive techniques are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of aggression. _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Corra has bitten a person who was walking by her when she was outside. Corra may need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach her to look at you rather than people and things that may startle her. We recommend a front clip harness or head halter to help manage this behavior.
