Hello, my name is Copper. My animal id is #19109. I am a desexed male tan dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a returns on 02-Feb-2018.
Cooper is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Infection Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs. Cooper is suitable for an Average pet owner.

A volunteer writes: Copper caught my eye as soon as I walked into the room– his lovely rust color, his pointy gorgeous ears, and his enthusiasm for everything are a winning combination. Copper loves to explore and go for walks, and when feeling energetic (which is most of the time, he’s still a young pup!) can pull a little bit on the leash. Copper seems very interested in other dogs, curious and friendly with new people, and seems to be housetrained (waiting til we’re outside to do his business). Copper would love an active home where he can get the exercise, structure, and love he deserves! Come and meet him at the BACC today.

Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. Allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.
Paw squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Paw squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.
Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. Dog does not place his/her body between you and the toy.
Summary: During the handling assessment Milton Bradley was social and friendly. He engaged in play and he readily allowed handling.
Summary (1): Copper was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown.
1/25-28: When off leash at the Care Center, Copper engages in high energy, rough play. He uses a lot of body contact and leaps but is easy to slow down when he overwhelms the other dog. He does take breaks but is slow to read the other dog’s body language.
2/3: Copper returned to playgroup after recovering from surgery, and greeted a novel female dog with a wiggly body. Once the pen door pens, his energy skyrockets and he engages in rough rowdy mouthy play with body slams and occasional running. Handlers have to encourage him to slow down, and take breaks.
2/4- 2/5: Copper engaged in rough, mouthy play with a female dog that has similar play styles. He manages his energy better today and listens to the handler’s interrupters.

Cooper had a loose wiggly body when approached and jumped up on counselor’s lap and gave a lot of kisses. He allowed to be scanned and collared with no change in body.
Basic Information:: Cooper is a tan and white medium mixed breed dog. He was returned to the center due to his breed. The owner adopted him on the 30 of January.
Previously lived with:: 1 adult
How is this dog around strangers?: Cooper is very friendly and does not mind jumping on people to greet them hello.
How is this dog around children?: Cooper has not lived with children so his behavior is unknown.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Cooper has not lived with dogs so his behavior is unknown.
How is this dog around cats?: Cooper has not lived with cats so his behavior is unknown.
Resource guarding:: Cooper does not display any resource guarding.
Bite history:: Cooper has not bitten a person or another animal.
Housetrained:: Partially
Energy level/descriptors:: Very high.
