08/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: In addition to her natural beauty (Coop has two different-colored eyes and a calm and statuesque presence), Coop is quite possibly the most polite dog I’ve ever met. When we go for walks, she stays right beside me and instead of pulling ahead, she patiently waits for me every time we pass through a door or gate. When I ask Coop to sit for a treat, she calmly and slowly sits down and looks up at me. Of course, when I offer her her reward, she takes one sniff and turns up her nose (I guess she has discerning tastes to go along with that glamorous look ;). Amid a room full of barking dogs that can easily stress some dogs out, Coop remains calm and collected in her cage, silently sitting or lying down until someone comes by to take her out. When I walk up to her I usually say “Coop, do you even want to go out?” to which she responds by sitting up and coming over to the front of the cage. Of course she does! She’s just playing it cool. If you’re looking for a calm, beautiful, and patient dog, please come and see Coop today.
08/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Coop came into the shelter on 8/2/16, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during Intake: Coop was nervous and allowed minimal handling. During SAFER Coop came into the assessment room calm and relaxed she had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, she allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Coop was relaxed during the tag interaction, she and during the resource portion of the assessment. Coop was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Coop appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-Dog:When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Coop is nervous, greeting the other dog with a tucked tail. She greets the other dog but mostly keeps to herself as she wanders in the pen. She is tolerant of the other dog’s persistent greetings and play solicitations.
08/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR

She greets the other dog but mostly keeps to herself as she wanders in the pen. She is tolerant of the other dog’s persistent greetings and play solicitations. 8/8: Coop engages in brief bouncy play but will intermittently assert herself and mount him as play energy increases. 8/11: Coop stands tall next to the other dog when she greets. She follows the other dog; placing her muzzle near his. She briefly walks away when handlers interrupted but reapproaches the dog, displaying the same body language.
