01/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1063175 Columbus came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Columbus had loose body posture and allowed all handling. During SAFER Columbus came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Columbus joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Columbus was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Columbus had a previous incident with another dog in the shelter, when Columbus was walking past the other dog cage and redirect and bit the dog on his front left paw. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Columbus rushes in towards the helper dog with his body tense and tail above spine. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter and we recommend being the only pet in the home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
