With a slow approach he allowed leashing but tensed and lip licked when his collar was reached for. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: Date of initial 9/3/2017 During his initial medical exam, Coffee allowed all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on coffee so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, Coffee displays a high level of energy and will benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend daily walks, runs, exercise, and play. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to bite history _X_Place with a New Hope partner
Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control- Coffee would jump up at times, to get into a toy bin and take out toys. It is recommended that default behaviors such as sit/stay, leave it, and down are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression- Coffee has established a willingness to escalate to a bite when placed into especially fearful/stressful situations. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training for Coffee as more aversive methods are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of potential aggression.
