08/26/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cody has shown some concern during his time out in playgroup here in the care centers; It has been noted that Cody’s focus and intent when outside with another female dog is to mount. One session was ended quickly as he was reported to be a little more persistent than usual. While at the front of the gate in the adjacent pen where the female dog was, Cody attempted to get back in the pen. Upon handler intervention, (involving picking up the leash to remove him from the pen) Cody quickly redirected onto his handlers hand, no broken skin. Because of this fixation and his display of inappropriate behavior when attempting to refocus, the behavior department believes Cody would benefit best from an experienced adopter who can provide an adult only home. Force-free, reward based training is highly advised when introducing/exposing Cody to new and unfamiliar situations. 8/25 SAFER Assessment Cody was surrendered to our care centers as owner no longer has to the time to properly care for him. Cody previously lived with adults and children aged 8 and 10 years old. The owner stated Cody is very friendly, playful and gentle towards strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned Cody spent limited time with cats and dogs, but he is alert and curious. At intake it was reported Cody was relaxed and allowed all handling. During SAFER Cody came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Cody was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Cody was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Cody is reported to be chewing on wood and shoes when left alone for long periods, so we advise future adopters to make sure to provide mentally and physically stimulating, appropriate chew toys to keep Cody occupied when left alone. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1.
