10/15/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
10/15/16 12:38 Basic Info Coco is a three year old Bichon Frise. His most recent owner stated that he found the dog as a stray several months ago and was surrendering because the dog kept trying to bite. Socialization Client stated that Coco has a stiff body around strangers and will growl at them. He has lived with an infant, but was not allowed to ever interact with her. Coco lived with a Maltese during this time. He would growl at the other dog, and wouldn’t play. He did not live with any other animals. Coco bit the client once several months ago on the lip, and the client needed stiches to reattach the lip. Client refused to state what was happening before this bite occured. Behavior Client stated that Coco was not house trained “at all”. He also said that Coco would destroy objects within the house when left alone. Coco will bark during loud noises. Client claimed Coco would snap if he tried to take food, toys, or treats away from Coco. Coco will not allow for holding and will growl if it is attempted, and will also growl and struggle for baths. He barks if a strangers enters the yard or house. For a New Family to Know Coco was reported to have a very high activity level. He tends to stay by himself when at home, and sleeps on the floor. He is used to eating dry food and goes on walks at least two times a day. He also loves off leash time at the dog park several times per week. Behavior During Intake Coco growled a bit at counselor when he first came into the office, and hid behind his surrenderer. Counselor had client collar and leash Coco. After client left, Coco stopped growling and displayed loose body. He backed away when counselor would attempt to pet, but followed counselor around readily on leash. He sat nicely for pictures when asked.

PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL Behavior: 10/19/16 During his initial medical examination, Coco tolerated all handling without issue. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13)(See known history/potential challenges) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (See known history/bite history. Coco has attempted to snap multiple times during his stay at our care centers, for this reason along with known history, we believe Coco would benefit best from placement with a New Hope rescue group who can further assess this behavior in a stable environment.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Coco has displayed fearful/defensive behavior during his stay at our care centers, tolerating very minimal handling; any form of direct touch may result in a fearful bite. It is recommended that Coco be allowed a proper time to decompress to aid in acclimating him to a new environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Coco to new and unfamiliar situations.) _X_Resource guarding (We cannot be certain whether any guarding or possessive behavior may appear in a home environment, but we recommend adopters comfortable with safe management and modification of guarding behavior in case it does.)
