A volunteer writes: Young, active, playful, jumpy, bouncy, excited and adorable, Puppy Cliff is looking for a home in which he’ll get lots of love, structure and puppy training. He’s the cutest little guy who’s ready to make friends with everyone, including a cat in his previous home even when she made it clear she wasn’t interested! Cliff was surrendered to our care and we’re told that he lived with adults and children 3 and older and allowed all interaction but would sometimes jump on them and scratch them. He wants to play with every animal he passes, loves attention and asks for it, doesn’t guard his stuff, and prefers company to being alone. Cliff went potty as soon as we were out the door, and while he’s pretty good on leash he’s puppy bouncy and scattered so could use some leash work. Posing for some pictures he does a head tilt when I make squeaky noises at him
and he’s just beyond adorable as he’s doing that. When off leash with other dogs Cliff engages in rough mouthy play. Cliff needs some training to make him the best companion he can be and it’s recommended that he not go into a home with children due to his mouthiness and current play style. We raise children and train them, and animals need the proper training as puppies as well. If you’re a puppy person, ready to take on the cutest little guy and help him develop into a rockstar adult, Cliff is hoping to meet you. He may do very well with another dog in the home, one with a similar play style to Cliff.
PROFILE :
Cliff is described as hyper, playful, excitable and affectionate. He lived in a home with adults and children 3 and older. Cliff is tolerant and playful with the children. He will allow them to pet and tug at him without reactin. His owner stated that Cliff will jump up on the children while playing somtimes scratching them. Cliff also lived with a cat. He would constantly attempt to play with the cat even when she swipes at him. Cliff will pull towards other dogs and cats that he notices outside in an attempt to sniff and play. His owner stated that he doesn’t take correction, he will continue trying to play.
BEHAVIOR
Cliff enjoys attention from his family and will jump up on them if he wants to be petted. Cliff doesn’t mind if his food is touched or removed from him while eating. Cliff is allowed to roam free when left alone but his owner describes him as destructive. Cliff likes to scratch at the wall, chew on shoes and and throw the dirty laundry about in the house. He will also bark by the front door when left alone. Cliff has had accidents in the bathroom, especially the bath tub when left alone for more than a few hours. Cliff greets guest inside and outside of the home playfully. His owner stated that he becomes excited when given attention.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Cliff likes to play with rubber toys and playing tug. He knows the commands “sit and stop.” Clff is walked at least 4x a day for up to 2 hours sometimes. He eats Pedigree dry and wet dog food. Cliff will sleep anywhere in the home sometimes in bed with the children.
BEHAVIOR :
Cliff came into our center as an owner surrender citing not being trained/behavior concerns. He is reportedly mouthy, jumpy, and destructive of household items. It is reported Cliff lived in a home with children ages 3 and up, and several cats, tolerant and playful. Owner reports Cliff doesn’t mind if his food is touched or removed from him while eating. Cliff is allowed to roam free when left alone but his owner describes him as destructive. Cliff likes to scratch at the wall, chew on shoes and throw the dirty laundry about in the
house. He will also bark by the front door when left alone. Cliff has had accidents in the bathroom, especially the bath tub when left alone for more than a few hours. Cliff is described as hyper, playful, excitable and affectionate. Cliff pulled slightly on leash during his relief walk. Cliff displayed high energy upon entering the SAFER assessment room, jumping up on assessor. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, high energy and wiggly movement, mouthing with moderate pressure. Cliff leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, mouth open, body soft. He was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, jumped up on assessor, mouthing. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licks assessor’s hand. Cliff kept a firm grip on Toy, soft body. Owner reports Cliff likes to play with rubber toys and playing tug. He knows the cues “sit and stop.” When off leash with other dogs Cliff engages in rough, mouthy play with exuberant females. The Behavior Team feels Cliff would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. It is highly recommended that Cliff receive puppy obedience classes to curb any jumping and mouthing, as well as leash manners and crate training to
aid in decreasing destructive behavior when alone in the home. Cliff will require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as kongs and nylabones to positively direct his puppy energy and enthusiasm.
