A volunteer writes: This gorgeous young guy sits quietly in his kennel waiting for his turn to go out. As soon as I begin to open his door he stands, tail wagging happily and giving me a big smile. He’s stunning in his light cream color coat, slender and the perfect weight for his size. Surrendered due to landlord issues we told he’s friendly to all, has visited with children of all ages but can sometimes play a bit rough, plays hard with dogs of all sizes, is housetrained but will have accidents if not walked at least twice a day, has food guarding issues(but not toys), and loves to play tug. I loved walking with my handsome companion through the park. He showed off his housetraining skills the moment we were out the door, has lovely leash manners and is clearly looking for his person as we walk. He seems to have good memories of a car, as he looks into every car we pass, and if a door or window is open I can tell he’s thinking of jumping in. Sorry, Ciroq – not your car. His tail never stops wagging, and when he joins me on the bench for a snuggle he leans in close. Water break time, and rather than use the bowl I bring, he stands against the water fountain and drinks right from the flow. So cute! Ciroq did win one of my awards yesterday -and that was for worst model as I couldn’t get him to pose nicely for me. He didn’t like either of my treats so it was hard to entice him to look at the camera so that you can see how gorgeous he is. He’s such a good boy, I enjoyed my time with him and know that you will too. He’s looking for a person or family who’s ready to enjoy some fun time with a playful and steady dog. Who’s it going to be?
PROFILE:
Ciroq was surrendered due to landlord issues. He was described by his owner as friendly with strangers. He loves to sniff, jump, and be pet. He has visited children of all ages. Previous owner says he enjoys being around them, but can be a bit rough with younger children- sometimes they get scared when he jumps on them. He will play exuberantly and a little rough with adults. He has visited large and small dogs, and plays roughly with both of them. He will play similarly with cats that he has briefly visited. He has bitten one person about six months ago, due to food guarding, but immediately let go after the incident. He will go to the bathroom indoors if not walked at least twice a day. Previous owner says he is sometimes hard to control when he is playing. Ciroq will growl and bite if food is taken away from him. Owner says he does not display this behavior with treats or toys- he loves to play tug. He has a high to very high activity level. He likes to follow his owner around the house or hang out in his favorite spot. Ciroq can get lonely and “sad” when left alone for too long. He was allowed to sleep anywhere in his previous house, and would usually hang out on the bed or sofa. He ate dry and wet food but will sometimes be picky about dry food- he likes it to be mixed with wet food. He knows basic commands like sit and stay, and is used to off leash walks or jogs. Off the leash he will stay by his owner’s side, or wander away and then come back.
At the ACC, Ciroq was quiet. He had a loose body, open mouth, and wagging tail even when his owner left. He allowed for collaring and to be pet all over his body. He listened when commanded to “sit”.
Ciroq was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Ciroq was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys.
SAFER:
Ciroq was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Ciroq is friendly with strangers. Ciroq will growl and bite if food is taken away from him. Owner says he does not display this behavior with treats or toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Dog-to-dog: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Ciroq briefly engages in play – however quickly becomes anxious and seeks to exit the yard
playgroup Notes:
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Ciroq briefly engages in play – however quickly becomes anxious and seeks to exit the yard. His former owner cites “He has visited large and small dogs, and plays roughly with both of them.” The behavior team feels that Ciroq could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction and slow introductions.
