02/18/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/18/17 13:23 On intake, Cinnabun jumped out of the crate and his tail was wagging. He allowed counselor to pet him and he jumped up onto counselor and accepted head scratches. Counselor asked Cinnabun to sit and he listened. She gave him a treat which he gently accepted and munched up in one second. While sitting, counselor collared him and took off his collar that he came in with. He kept jumping up onto counselor for more scratches and treats. Counselor walked him over to area for picture taking and he sat nicely for it (with the help of a treat). His tail did not stop wagging until counselor walked him to area to get his vaccines. It got low.

03/03/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None Date of Intake 2/18/2017 Unaltered male, Stray Bite history: Cinnabun bit victim’s arm when adjusting Cinnabun’s collar. Has had previous bite incident though no further details provided. Other notes: Cinnabun was friendly upon intake, wagging tail, sat on cue for treats, enthusiastic and social. SAFER ASSESSMENT: Date of assessment 3/3/2017 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, playful but jumps hard onto assessor, settles at end. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back paw, displays high energy and movement in between attempts. Toy 1: 1. Dog playfully engages, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Cinnabun displayed high energy and movement in the SAFER assessment room, but settled down and sat affectionately in assessor’s lap after assessment. He remained soft throughout entire interaction. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Pending. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 2/18/2017 During his initial medical examination, Cinnabun tolerated all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: In the care center Cinnabon has been very active and enthusiastic. He may have a low threshold for arousal and need guidance to learn how to appropriately channel that energy when he becomes overstimulated. He will need daily mental and physical stimulation and exercise in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behavior outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): In addition to his bite history, Cinnabun jumped up hard intermittently throughout SAFER assessment. He is a very large, strong dog and feel that he may do best in an adult home only at this time. Potential challenges: _X _Basic manners/Poor impulse control: Cinnabun jumped up hard intermittently throughout SAFER assessment. We recommend that default behaviors such as “sit/stay” and “down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting: Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. _X_Social hyper-arousal: Cinnabun displayed a low threshold for arousal as he escalated fairly quickly during the tag portion though recovered well. We recommend Cinnabun be taught the cue “focus”, “eyes on me”, “drop” and other trade up games. _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Cinnabun was reported to bite when having his collar adjust, we cannot be certain if this is a startle response or some touch sensitivity though recommend allowing Cinnabun to interact at his own pace and pair any forms of touch with good things (I.e. treats) _X_Strength: Cinnabun is a very large, strong dog with the capability to pull over an average adopter. His adopter must be prepared and able to handle a dog of this size and strength. It is recommended that he be walked on a front clip harness or head halter, which helps diminish his strength through leverage, and that he be trained using positive reinforcement, reward based training to not pull on leash.
