A volunteer writes: Sleek and elegant in her gleaming brindle coat, Cindy is shy at first but bouncy happy on a walk. Going potty is a priority once outside, she wasn’t interested in wearing a coat, and after a reassuring hug we’re off to the park. I love watching this shy girl, who sometimes flinches at an unexpected touch get bouncy and fun as she walks. Cindy figures out quickly that she’s with friends and then shyly approaches for a kiss and a cuddle, and her safe place is sitting close. Eventually gently taking some treats she shows off her sit as we hang out in the park watching early morning rituals unfold. Cindy seems to enjoy the company of other dogs so may enjoy a doggie sibling in her new home. She’s a little gem who needs to feel safe before revealing the love in her heart and the fun in her personality. If you’re a patient person (and it won’t take long), ready to offer this sweet girl a home in which to feel safe and loved, Cindy is ready to meet you. The best things come in small packages and she’s ready to prove it to you.
PROFILE:
Basic Info
Cindy is a 6 year old
Cindy came into our care center Thursday afternoon due to her current owner stating their was a family emergency that he didn’t want to provide any information on. Owner was very adamant on keeping the details of the previous owner hidden. Also didn’t share information on Cindy at this time. Will be updated.
Behavior during intake
Cindy was very excited under the supervision of the counselors. She was very shy but opened up to the counselors with a wagging tail. She allowed counselors to collar her and photograph her as well as take treats nicely.

DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT:
Summary
PLAYGROUP:
Summary
MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
During her initial medical exam, Chase was very tense.
ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Chase so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below)
_X_No young children (under 5): Due to Chase’s response to some of the SAFER handling items, tensing with up close handling, we feel she may be intimidated by small children. Older, gentle children should have an in depth interaction prior to adoption.
Potential challenges:
_X_Handling/touch sensitivity (Chase becomes fearful with up close handling. It is important to always go slow and give Chase the option to walk away from any social interaction. Chase should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Chase’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Chase would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings.)
