10/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cielo arrived in our care after his owner passed away. He is described as friendly around strangers and children (he lived with a six year old). He lived with two small dogs and a cat; all of which he is described as being relaxed around. It is reported he is not house trained and will use the bathroom daily in the house. Cielo is fearful of loud noises and will flinch or hide when he hears them. He often barks at home and when someone unfamiliar approaches home or owner he will bark. Cielo is not bothered by having his food or toys touched or taken. He is kept indoors, reported to have a low activity level and will follow the owner around the house. On intake Cielo allowed handling but then snapped at the counselor when he was touched near his head. Due to health concerns Cielo is not a candidate for SAFER assessment at this time. The behavior department believes Cielo would benefit best from placement with a New Hope Rescue who can meet his needs medically and then assess behavior once he is in a stable environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Cielo to new and unfamiliar situations.
