10/01/16 21:31 BASIC INFORMATION Chunky is a spayed American Pit Bull that is 9 years old. She owner recieved Chunky as a gift . Chunky is very close to his owner and has been a loyal companion. However the owner is surrendering Chunky due to land lord issues. Chunky has no known illness. SOCIALIZATION Chunky has lived with 2 adults in the house. She is very affectionate and enjoys cuddling in the bed. She has been introduced to small children ages 3 and up & teenager. Around toddler and up, she is mellow and gently. She allows being petted. When stranger come to visit Chunky approach and sniff them. She allows being petted and picked up. She warms up to new people immediately. Chunky has never lived with dog or cats. BEHAVIOR Chunky allows all handling. She is gently around children and mellow around strangers. She allows receiving baths, having his food bowl touched while eating & removing toys from his mouth. He is house trained and is walked 3 times a day. Chunky has never had a bite history. When the owner is doing errands, Chunky is left in the cage. Chunky growls when her paws or nails are touched. FOR NEW FAMILIES TO KNOW Chunky is described as mellow, aloof and affectionate. Chunky favorite activity is to lounge around the house and mostly sleep. She is fine around children and stranger. She sometimes likes to play with squeaky toys. She enjoys walks around the neighborhood or the park. Chunky knows the commands sit, stay come and lay. His favorite dog food is Alpo dry with a drop of water. Chunk’s favorite placed to sleep is the owner’s bed. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Chunky allowed all handling during intake. Shee approached counselor and sniffed. She was calm and relaxed. He allowed being collard, scanned & photographed. Chunky was friendly throughout the intake.

Other notes: Chunky growls when her paws or nails are touched SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/5/16 Summary: Chunky growl and lunged when attempting to approach her in the assessment room with her hackles raised, exposing all teeth. Due her current behavior/stress level, Chunky is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. PLAYGROUP: Chunky’s previous owner reported that she has no history around other dogs. When off leash at the Care Center, Chunky mostly keeps to herself when interacting with male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Chunky be placed in a home with dogs that match her calm energy level. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/02/16 During her initial medical examination, Chunky remained highly uncomfortable, displaying appropriate warning signals; growling and eventually snapping upon direct contact. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) (See potential challenges) _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Chunky has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake and is now shut down in shelter. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.) Chunky’s previous owner reported that she has no history around other dogs. When off leash at the Care Center, Chunky mostly keeps to herself when interacting with male and female dogs. The Behavior Department recommends that Chunky be placed in a home with dogs that match her calm energy level. 10/3: Chunky is apprehensive to approach and greet the helper dog at first though she eventually allows his greet and responds by turning her head away and lifting her paw. For the remainder of the session, Chunky mostly avoids interacting with him and wanders around the yard. 10/6: When greeting another female dog, Chunky displays neutral body language. She is tolerant of the other female’s face to face greetings but mostly keeps to herself as she explores the pen.
