07/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Chula came into the care center as a stray, so we cannot speak to her behavior in her previous home. She was timid at intake, but allowed all handling. During her initial medical examination, Chula was social and friendly; during her veterinary re-exam she growled once but then allowed the full exam. Chula allowed all handling items during the SAFER assessment. She followed the Assessor during Tag, but needed coaxing to approach at the end of the game. She did not engage with the toy. Chula showed no concerning behaviors during her SAFER assessment. She benefits from a slow approach and can be timid toward strangers, though she warms up and has been tolerant even when nervous. We recommend an experienced adopter for Chula. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Toy: 1. No interest.
